Audio Modifications
The audio is the first thing I started modifying in my Saturn. I dont think the original tape deck and speakers were in the car for a week before I swapped them.
The first time around I went with a JVC CD deck running a 25x4 watt amp powering the Kenwood speakers all around. I also had a 250x2-watt amp powering an MTX 10-inch subwoofer. This sounded all right, but it wasnt quite the sound I was looking for.
I kept the system this way for almost two years and I decided that it was time for a change. I sold the old amps, interior speakers and subwoofer and bought all new interior speakers and an amp to run them. I liked the JVC deck so I kept it. I ended up with 6.5 inch Infinity Kappa separates in the front door and 6.5 Infinity Kappa coaxials in the rear deck. I went a little cheaper on the amp because I was running a little short on cash and got a Crunch 75x4 watt amp to run the speakers.
Now THIS was the sound I was looking for. Let me tell you, those Infinity Kappa speakers are some of the best sounding speakers I have ever heard. There is no distortion whatsoever and I can crank the deck all the way up!!! They also have a three-year warranty on them, so I dont have to worry about blowing them up. Now I no longer need the subwoofer and I can free up the trunk space.
Well, one day the JVC deck died on me, so I needed to get a new deck. I opted for the top of the line Pioneer with the built in graphic EQ. I lucked out because Skit, the guy who installs all my audio stuff, was selling his year old model because he wanted the new model. It was a sweet deal, so I couldnt pass it up. The deck is much better than the old JVC ever was and the screen has a neat looking display.
I have had the system like this for over a year now and the only thing I am thinking of adding is a pair of Infinity Kappa 6x9s in the rear doors for a little more bass. Other than that, I love it!!!
