1999 SC-2

coupe6.jpg (60863 bytes)Once I got the project SL-2’s performance engine rebuild completed, I decided that I couldn’t use it as a daily driver. I realized that I really couldn’t use it as a daily driver one day when the engine stumbled and started knocking.  I brought it to the dealer and it was diagnosed with a rod-bearing knock. Warp over to the engine mods to learn more.

While I was at the dealership, I noticed a leftover 99 SC-2 in the showroom. I took a brief look at it and saw the sticker price was around $18,000, not even close to my price range, so I stopped dreaming. Well, I brought the old SL-2 home and parked it in the driveway while I was deciding what to do with it.

I came up with a couple of choices. One was to keep the SL-2 as a project and lease a 2000 SL to be a daily driver. The other was to trade in the SL-2 and get that 99 SC-2 that was in the showroom, even though I really couldn’t afford it. After talking with my sales person, I found out that the 99 SC-2 had been a manager’s demo and had 5400 miles on it. Also, the car was considered two model years old since the 2001 coupes had just come out.

Well, to make a slightly longer story shorter, they were discounting the 99 SC-2 from the sticker price of $18,000 to $13,995. With the considerable discount, the monthly payments on that 99 SC-2 ended up being just slightly more than the lease for a 2000 SL, so I chose to go with the SC-2 AND keep the SL-2 as a project car, the best of both worlds!!!

I decided that this would be the better choice. One reason why I made this choice is that I get to own the SC-2 after I am done paying for it, go figure!!! And another reason is I get more toys with a fully loaded SC-2 than I would get in a basic SL.

As of right now, I have no plans of modifying the SC-2. However, I will be using this car for the rest of this season’s autocrossing and track events… read about them on the racing page. I will also be using the SC-2 to test some of the basic modifications with my friend Jay’s G-Tech Pro. The modifications will be coming off the SL-2 just for testing. I am planning to test the car stock, then adding the intake, plugs, wires, and possibly exhaust. I will update you when I have completed the testing!!!
